Natural Skincare Ingredients: Charcoal
Let’s talk about nature’s big detoxer– charcoal. Charcoal has been used to purify for centuries. Charcoal masks and even teeth whiteners have been all the rage lately and for good reason. Did you know that charcoal can absorb up to 2000 times it’s own weight in free radical pollution? This is what makes it such an effective purifier and filter. (Ever used a water filter pitcher and noticed little black bits in the water when you’re soaking your filter for first time use? Yep, that’s charcoal.)
Charcoal’s ability to absorb oil, dirt and other toxins makes charcoal a really effective tool for fighting acne. The activated charcoal binds to the oil and dirt and pulls it to the surface of your skin where you can wash it away, leaving your skin smoother. Having less junk in your pores will also naturally make them appear smaller.
Charcoal also powerful enough to pull out some toxins such as bee stings and can even help pull out splinters. My daughter recently had a tiny little splinter in her foot- one of those really annoying ones you just can’t seem to pull out with a tweezers. We smeared the area with Posh’s Stripper charcoal detox mask and out it came!
(Bonus: look at those cute toes!)
Charcoal can be acne or oily skin’s best friend, but it might be too strong for sensitive or dry skin.
And even if you decide charcoal is right for you, try masking once a week and going up from there. Listen to your skin!

Gender Bender is strong enough to deep oils, dirt and even dyes from your skin, but with shea butter and palm oil to balance the detox and prevent stripping your skin of good oils your skin needs to be healthy.
Stripper DTox Body Mud is loaded with charcoal, as well as kaolin clay, another amazing detox agent. Safflower oils, aloe and glycerin balance the detox. As with all masks, test on the inner wrist first. Leave on until tacky, and rinse.
NOT for use on the face!
Our deep-cleaning, facial mask uses kaolin, charcoal, and volcanic ash to clarify skin, then tones it with astringent spearmint and eucalyptus. Use once a week to start.
She’s not as powerful as Stripper, but you still want to follow up with an awesome moisturizer (like Night and Day)
Love the Dark body scrub harnesses charcoal as well as black sea salt to detox, while shea butter and honey moisturize and heal micro-tears in your skin. And it smells amazing! Use 2-5 times a week on your entire body.
